SHEEP THIEF GAOLED
PROBATION FOR SON PAIR CAUGHT RED-HANDED (Special to THE SUN) MARTON, Sunday. Father and son stood together in the dock of the Hunterville Police Court yesterday to answer three charges of stealing three sheep and one of having skins in their possession. They pleaded guilty. Accused were caught red-handed by Constable Edwards, who asked for a heavy sentence, as the crime had been prevalent in the district for some yeaj-s. An eloquent appeal by Mr. J. M. Hussey failed to alter the magistrate’s decision, and Waiter John Bartlett was sentenced to 28 days* imprisonment. His son Lewis was admitted to probation for two years. Bartlett was formerly a well-to-do farmer, but was a heavy loser through the slump.
