AND NOW THE AIR
GOODRICH SILVERTOWN PROGRESS Goodrich has pioneered in the development of many phases of transportation. It gave American cyclists their first pneumatic tyre; it aided the development of the motor-car by being first to provide pneumatic tyre comfort and protection. The first Goodrich Silvertown brought new standards of service to motorists. Goodrich has pioneered in the development of rubber goods for airplanes, injecting its high standards of quality, craftsmanship and engineering, to make travel by air safer. Its tyres were with Colonel Lindbergh in his epochal flight over the Atlantic, again in his Pan-American goodwill tour. Goodrich Silvertown airplane tyres spanned the Pacific with Squadron-Leader Kingsford Smith, and. later, with the original tyres, achieved the historical flight across the Tasman. The Silvertown of the air has now made its debut—a beautiful cabincruiser type built by Fairchild. It is to be used by Goodrich Factory executives for commercial purposes. It will blaze th® sky trails with Goodrich name and colours from Akron to many municipal ports throughout the United States and Canada. Goodrich is among the first of the representative American industries to accept officially the airplane as a practical and efficient means of transportation. It may be argued that the tyre plays no important part in flying. Consider ’hough for a moment the tremendous strain landing—particularly with a heavily overloaded machine like the Southern Cross. In the history of the flight, Kingsford Smith openly acknowledges the fact that much depended upon the ability of the tyres to withstand the enormous pressure they were subjected to in landing. Hence it is doubly interesting to note the fact that Goodrich is now pioneering rubber supplies for the newest of industries —that of airplane manufacture.
