Bell as the president of the Arts and Crafts, which amalgamated so successfull y with the Lyceum Club, and bv Mrs. Alagnus Johnson, the first club secretary. * * * CHINA AFTERNOON. On Wednesday afternoon Airs. Xeil Reid and the Alisses Reid gave a very enjoyable china afternoon at their home, Halmwood, Ngahinapouri. The guest of honour was Miss Renee Sanders, who is shortly to be married. Mrs. Reid had chosen a pretty floral crepe de chine frock. Miss D. Reid was in a dainty' floral voile, and Aliss G. Reid in a cream sports frock. Miss Banders was in a smart cream frock, banded with green. Tennis, clock croquet, and competitions passed the afternoon. The winners of the competitions were Aliss H. Ryburn and Miss E. Ryburn. Those present were: Alesdames J. AlcGregor, W. Sanders, C. Reid, R. Gillard, T. AlcCaJlum, Stewart, Reid, Misses F. Reid. E. Douglas, P. Aloore, jl. Rye, D. Vowless, AI. A gay Leap Year ball was held in the Xgaruawahia Town Hall on Wednesday’ night, and proved most successful, over 120 couples from the surrounding districts being present. Splendid music was supplied by Prendergast’s orchestra, extras being played by Miss O’Sullivan (Hamilton) and Afessrs. AlcGruar, Jones, and Pettit.
