MANGERE RATEPAYERS

Mr. F. IT. Winters, chairman of tii# Manukau County Council, presided o vor a fair attendance of ratepayers of the Mangere riding of ffm Manukau Countv in the Mangere Central Hall, last evening' Mr. S. W. House, member for the ridin« Mr. Ashcroft, clerk, and Mr. Page, engineer, were also present. A long discussion took place on the question of representation of the riding on the council. Owing to the steady building programme which has been going on for some time past, averaging over £7,000 a month, the question of increased representation which the district is entitled to was considered. Several schemes were brought forward, such as allowing a representation of two members, dividing the present area into two ridings, residential and rural, and leaving the representation to one member, as at present. After discussion it was decided to forward a recommendation to the council that the district be represented by two members. The question of a water supply was also under consideration and it was reported that the matter was now well in hand, a shaft having been sunk on the Mangere Mountain, and if this does not prove successful outside sources will be considered.
