NEW PICNIC GROUNDS
HITCH OVER MOTUIHI CITY COUNCIL AND HEALTH DEPARTMENT According to a statement by the Mayor, Mr. G. Baildon, certain portions of Motuihi Island will become available for picnic parties almost immediately. The Health Department, however, has received no official advice of this, and the island will remain closed to the public until it does. In any case a certain number of arrangements have to be made before the island can be opened to the public, and then only some of the beaches and portion of the interior will be available. The Health Department will continue to hold portion of the island for quarantine purposes, and the Agricultural Department will continue to graze sheep. No dogs will be allowed on the island, and fires will not be permitted except at certain spots. The City Council will virtually control the area open to the public, and will put a caretaker on the island. Possibly it will be available to visitors before Christmas.
