MR. j. C. SCANLON Mr. Jeremiah Charles Scanlon, for many years in charge of the Terrace Gaol, Wellington, has died, at the age of 6$. —P.A. MR. ANDREW COWIE Mr. Andrew Cowie-, a well-known temperance worker, died at Mount Eden yesterday, at the age of 82. Born in Scotland, Mr. Cowie came to New Zealand about 60 years ago, and settled near Invercargill. About 20 years ago he married Mrs. Cowie, and they came to Auckland abont seven year ago. They had done much travelling, having made two trips round the world. MR. CHARLES LAWRENCE A highly-respected resident of Kopuarahi, Mr. Charles Lawrenofli died in the Thames Hospital on Friday. Eight days before, he was kicked by a horse and though his injury was serious it was not thought that it would be fatal. The late Mr. Lawrence was a member of a large and well-known Taranaki family. He was born in Tariki about 46 years ago. He was farming in various parts of Taranaki and contracting in Inglewood before taking up land at Kopuarahi about St years ago. For many years he was a ni*-mb r of the Kopuarahi School Committee, and he took an active interest in sport having played and been on the controlling authorities of cricket and football All sport at Kopuarahi on Saturday last was postponed on account of his death. Mr. Lawrence leaves a wife and a family of seven.
