Bamboos and palms formed the background for a cleverly ’-ranged mass of caladiums, gloxinia primulas, ferns, solepis and nephroiepis. It is a striking display. Sir Kdwin Mitchelson. the society- president. a one exhibition of gladioli, >ueet peas and streptocarpus. Mr. yortnan Brett shows carnations, Mr. •>bert Burns's big display of gladioli , cupies one end of the hall, and Miss r Whiteley has a large display of gladioli. Many- of the latter are seedlings raised by the grower and are (i uite equal to imported. The Mayor of Newmarket, Mr. S. Donaldson, opened the show this . ternoon. It will continue this evening. all day to-morrow and to-mor-row evening. The judges are Messrs. George Mills, E. Allen, H. Clinkard, K. Whitelev, P. J. Cullen, H. G. Goldie, Mrs. B. Wilson, Mrs. Garry and Miss Morrison. Sweet peas and gladioli form the greater part of the show, although •here are pansies, violas and iceland poppies among the other flowers. The entries are a record. The judges beeve that the standard is well above my thing hitherto reached in Auckland.
