In the Market Place

TOMATO SALES DULL BRISK CHRISTMAS TRADING Hothouse tomatoes were dull of sale to-day in the City Markets. All benches were heavily stocked with fruit and vegetables, and indications of the beginning of brisk Christmas were given. The vegetable market is very heavily supplied with new potatoes, green peas, cabbages and cucumbers. No important line of vegetables is in short supply. The demand is fair generally, On the fruit benches, apples are hard to clear. Gooseberries show a decline in values. There is practically no inquiry for pears. Strawberries are in large supply and every effort is being made to clear the stocks. The demand is fair, but prices have dropped slightly. Sydney Valencia oranges are meeting with a poor demand.
