MOTOR-CYCLE RACING
I The Rotorua Motor-cycle Club I formally opened its new dirt racing j track on Mr. R. Williamson's property on the Atiamuri Road on Saturday. The following acted in official | capacities and were responsible for the successful running .of the sports: Judge, Mr. J. C. Bates: starters, Messrs. P. Butler and W. timekeepers. Messrs. Shields. Phipps and Arbiter: j handicappers, Messrs. J. Lewis, P. Butler and C. E. Adolph; treasurer, Mr. H. W. Puller. The most successful rider of the day ; was David Beckett, riding a 31 h.p. | overhead valve A.J.S. S. Williamson j won the hill climb in 37 4-ss, and tied with Beckett for the fastest lap with j flying start. Following are the results; i Handicap for machines up to 3} h.p.: I p. Beckett. 1: J. Lysaght, -: R. McLeod, j j Twin cylinders, up to 10-12 h.p. ! i laps): J. McLeod, 1; P. Iremonger, 2; H. : j Wrathall, 3. i Machines up to 22 h.p.: K. J. Big wood, j 1; Velocette, 2; R. McLeod, 3. Hill climb for machines up to 2i h.p.: 1 O. Hubber, 1; G. Woods, 2. Steeplechase on o.h.v. machines: S. i Williamson, 1; J. Lysaght. 2. Push bike race: Young (40yds). 1; D. Beckett (125yds). 2: Ward (scr), 3. Hill climb and steeplechase: E. Davidson, 1 : J. McLeod, 2. Open handicap event: Shakespeare, 1; J. Lysaght, 2; C. Williamson. 3. Three-lap cycle race: Woollams, 1; Ward, 2; Young, 3. S. Williamson and D. Beckett were tinonly competitors for the fastest lap, flying start, and a tie resulted, the time being | 53 4-ss. They rode a Raleigh and an f 1 A.J.S. respectively.
