VARYING PENALTIES
A GLANCE at the Waikato re- ’*■*' suits show that while The Shrew and Gold Sovereign have been penalised for Auckland on ♦he strength of their victories. Uncle Bert and Hal Chimes are exempt, although both won in faster time than their handicap. Gold Sovereign has received the full penalty for his victory, but The Shrew, who cut almost four seconds off her handicap, has only been brought back a couple. Mr. Paul is evidently allowing for the fast nature of the track, but ap* pearg to have been well impressed Gold Sovereign's display*
