Two Double Winners at Taumarunui
OWAIRAKA AND HAKANOA SUCCESS FOR SIAOSI IN CUP (Special to THE SUXJ TAUMARUNUI, Satu rda y. There were two double winners at Taumarunui on Saturday, these being Owairaka and Hakanoa. The cup was won by Siaosi, whose victory was a most popular one, and Takutama captured the open sprint. Beautiful weather favoured the annual fixture of the Taumarunui Racing Club to-day, and despite the counter-attraction staged by the Waikato Trotting Club the attendance was really good. Excellent going was provided, and the racing was very interesting throughout. The totalisator handled .£11,187, which was regarded as satisfactory. Last year the meeting was a tjvo-day one, and £13,363 10s and £9,744 —a total of £21,107 —was invested. Two years ago £13,948. was put through the machine.
