The newspapers state that this i > the result of unfortunate financial transactions and heavy gambling. A vigorous but unavailing attempt was made to keep the fact secret. Klotz ofr some time seemed to have lost his sense of the value of money. He gambled for high stakes at a sea side casino, and raid his debts with cheques, which were dishonoured.

Louis Lucien Klotz, former French statesman, is 60 years of age. Porn in Paris, he was educated as a lawyer, but abandoned a busy practice for politics. He made a special study of financial affairs, customs, and the State contracts with the railway companies. He held office in several Ministries. Under M. Georges Clemeneeau he became Finance Minister in November, 1917, and in 1919 he was one of the French delegates at the Peace Conference at Vetsailles. During office Tie frequently visited London, and he was largely responsible for the finance clauses of the Treaty of Versailles.
