Boy Sinks Attempting to Rescue Companion

TWO LIVES LOST MAN’S PLUCKY EFFORTS Press Association PALMERSTON N., To-day. A drowning fatality occurred at Tangimoana, near the mouth of the Rangitikei River, yesterday, the victims being Russell Ernest Burgess, aged 74, and Robert Parker, aged 19, sons of Rongotea farmers. They were swimming in the river when Burgess got into difficulties Parker went to his assistance, but sank on reaching him. Another man, Zuppicich, pluckily plunged In fully clothed, and succeeded in getting hold of one lad, but had to let go to avoid being dragged down/ He made a second fruitless attempt.
