"MIDNIGHT FROLICS”

AT HIS MAJESTY’S His Majesty’s Theatre was twice crowded on Saturday at the two presentations of “The Midnight Frolics.” The chief performer was, as usual, Clem Dawe. Working with the minimum of effort and with the maximum of gags and slapstick comedy he was extraordinarily funny—his contortions as he conducted the jazz band kept the audience shrieking with laughter. Helped by Eric Edgley he gave several “potted plays” and sketches and the fun never flagged when these two were on the stage. The jazz hand, conducted by the Russian violinist, Gregory Ivanoff, was as successful as ever-. ivanoff is possibly more effective in his solo numbers, but the band with its 11 players and score of instruments, always plays competently and attractively. There, are several good singers in the company and the trio Lilian Crisp, William Ferryman and Oscar Beck, give a fine performance; Phyllis Amery, the dancer, makes a welcome appearance and dances 4elightfully on the stage. The show will be repeated this evening and every evening this week.
