“A HARP IN HOCK” From a dingy, cobwebbed “cellar" pawnshop, to the most ultra modern of night clubs is the step negotiated by the players featured in “A Harp In Hock,” a new production of slum life and love in a big city, now being shown at the Everybody's Theatre. Rudolph Schildkraut. famous for his characterisation in “His People.’ and “The Country Doctor.” is seen as Isaac Abrams, a pawnbroker, the Shylock of the Ghetto. His place of business is packed with clocks, jewellery, trunks, guns, musical instruments, umbrellas and nick-nacks, many of which adorn the walls and ceilings. It is a dingy, musty old wreck oi a shop. where begrimed hands pass household treasures across the counter to receive in return a few* paltry shillings upon which the recipient hopes to exist for a short while—until a “break” comes to him or her. Down the street, a short distance away, is a night club. Care is unknown, the morrow means nothing, clothing and jewels are seen in abundance in this glittering palace of entertainment. “Crazy Maizie,” a clever and original I continental comedy, is the second feature, starring Lilian Harvey.
