The fascination of good clothes on the young shop girl is the theme of Madge Bellamy’s picture, “The Play Girl,” now at the Empire Theatre. The story, an original one by John Stone, deals with the adventures of a young shop girl who decides that clerking at £ 3 a w r eek is no vocation for a yo.ung lady with her beauty and brains. With the aid of a girl chum she becomes a lady of leisure, a "gimme girl” and “gold digger.” Her beauty attracts admirers, the two outstanding ones being Johnny Mack Brown and Walter MoOrail. Johnny falls for her sweet, wistful little face, while McGrail showers her with clothes and jewellery, hoping to w T in on his investment. “Good Time Charley.” starring Helene Costello, will also be shown. W. S. Van Dyke, who directed “White Shadows in the South Seas” for Metro - Goldwyn- May er, will lead a company of tw'o-score men and women into the heart of darkest Africa to film

“Trader Horn,” a version of the season’s literary * sensation “Aloysius Horn.” With Van Dyke there will go a complete electrical laboratory and four cameramen with two assistants; and six electricians will also go with three laboratory and two Movietone experts.
