KING’S RESTLESS DAY

Otherwise Satisfactory

NO EXTENSION OF TROUBLE

WHAT EXAMINATION REVEALS FE latest bulletin about the King's health says his Majesty did not have a restful day yesterday. However, examination of the affected lung seems to have revealed a satisfactory position. (United P.A. By Telegraph Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service)

Reed. noon. LONDON, Friday. The King's physicians, Lord Dawson of Penn and Sir Stanley Hewett, issued the following bulletin at 11.3 a.m. to-day: “His Majesty has had some restful sleep, and his general strength is being maintained. A further investigation of the right side of the chest will be undertaken today.” No significance is attached to the lateness of the issue of the bulletin, which is regarded as good. His Majesty's general condition is satisfactory. A further bulletin is not expected before the usual time in the evening. The morning bulletin was not posted till 12.20. Many hundreds of people waited three hours. The King was radiographed this afternoon. A portable apparatus was stationed in the yard, from where a cable was laid to the bedroom. A bulletin issued at 8.15 p.m. stated: —• "His Majesty has not had a restful day. Neither the radiological examination carried out in the afternoon, nor the exploration by the needle which previously was carried out, has disclosed any appreciable amount of pleural effusion. His general condition remains unchanged.” The Christmas plans of the Royal

family have necessarily been altered, and the arrangements to pass the season at Sandringham have been cancelled. The Queen will spend Christmas at Buckingham Palace. Princess Mary will also probably remain there. The Duke and Duchess of York have as yet made no definite plans for Christmas. FAST TRAIN JOURNEY LINES CLEARED FOR PRINCE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. noon. PARIS, Friday. The Prince of Wales’s train will do the 1,425 miles from Brindisi to Boulogne in 43 hours, which is much faster than ordinary expresses do. The whole of the lines will be cleared for an hour before the Royal train is due. The British Consul at Naples is proceeding direct to Brindisi, to have everything in readiness for the Prince to go on by train. Instructions have been given by the British Embassy, and also by the Italian Government, that the Prince must not ba worried by receptions. No one will be allowed to approach the train. Reports from Rome show that the Italian offer of an airplane to take the Prince of Wales from Egypt to Brindisi has been declined. Pope Pius continues to offer special prayers for King George, as he has done since the beginning of his illness. The Royal Family and the British Government, through Cardinal Bourne, have expressed their sense of gratitude for the Pope’s solicitude.
