NOVEL CRICKET MATCH
MEN, USING PICK-HANDLES, BAT LEFT-HANDED A novel game of cricket was played on Thursday afternoon between the women members and the installation staff of the Shell Company of New Zealand, Limited. The conditions of the game were that the men were to bat left-handed, using pick handles; to bowl underarm left-handed and to field left-handed. The women’s team, which batted first compiled the \ very fair sc<*re of 64 runs. The outstanding performer was Miss M. Cooper, who made 31 runs, showing a marked partiality for bowling pitched on the leg sids. . Misses Smith, Bassett, Cooper, Budd and Barr shared the bowling honours. The installation staff showed practically no form, there being no ambidextrous members, excepting E. C. Russell, who, by his “sugar «crape” shots, managed to knock up 23. The finish was exceedingly close, the installatibn beating the women by 1 hard-fought run.
