Proof of the experience and teaching ability of Mr. Walter Russell-Wood, the Auckland elocutionist, was afforded at his annual recital of students at Pukekohe, on Thursday evening. The varied programme was particularly bright and entertaining, and the audience signified its approbation of each of the respective items in a spirited fashion. From all points of view the recital was a pronounced success, the pupils giving their numbers with ability and taste. Those participating in the concert included Misses Nancy Snell, Marjorie Treanor, Edna Thomas, Thelma Judge, Hope Asher, Betty Pulham, Honor Sim, Elsie Robinson, Arawa Heron, Master Ernest Moncrief, Messrs. R. G. May, Ronald Bowie and their tutor, Mr. Rus-sell-Wood. Miss Jean McArthur, L.L.C.M. and Miss Hope Asher, A.T.C.L., were the accompanistes. ** • * At the practical examination of the London College of Music recently held in Auckland, the following Pukekohe pupils of Mr. C. D. Barker, A. Mus., L.C.M., of Remuera and Pukekohe, were successful:—Miss Jean McArthur, diploma of licentiate, piano; Miss Ethel Ridgley, diploma of associate, piano; Miss Jean Sinclair, advanced senior; Miss Kathleen Wharf e, senior, piano; Master Leslie Scott, advanced intermediate, violin; Master Wilfrid Wharfe, elementary violin. The examiner was Mr. W. E. Thomas, Muc. Doc. * * * The anniversary of the Pukekohe Methodist Church was celebrated on Wednesday evening by a social. Reports upon the activities of the church, presented by the Rev. H. L. Fiebig, 8.A., and Mr. John Patterson, showed that all branches were in a flourishing condition. A programme of musical, vocal and elocutionary numbers was contributed to by Misses Dingle (2), D. Purvis, Mesdames H. L. Fiebig, E. L. Curnow, Messrs. L. Holt, E. L. Curnow and Master E. Moncrief.
