The racquet he got for Xmas was a mistake. Jack would have appreciated a pair of Vance-Vivian’s well cut cream gabardine trousers. Uncle Algernon has always been a vegetarian. Words failed him when he got a ham for Xmas from a friend (?) Uncle would have been pleased with pyjamas. He’d have worn a pure silk Spitalfield tie or a silk scarf from Vance-Vivian with real pleasure. The Surf Club takes up all Tom’s spare time. A knitted pullover or a cardigan or a lumber jacket would have been really acceptable for Christmas. But not a copy of Edgar Allen Poe— Oh, no; not Poe! The donor missed badly; why didn’t she consult Vance-Vivian for Tom’s present? W/j Uncle Ernest is a Week-end Tramper. He wears tie and socks; he uses handkerchiefs, too; Someone gave him a ukulele for Xmas; and Uncle Ernest is about as musical as a cow. You see, there were plenty of gifts in Vance-Vivian’s that would have rejoiced the heart of Uncle Ernest! A Sander tie, for instance. Bill is a bowler. The best in his club. He loves all sports. Bill hates photography. This is his camera Christmas; two different people gave him one each. A silk tie and handkerchief to match for 6/11 the Bet from Vance-Vivian would have pleased him twice as much. fS t Harry is a sport. Races within 50 miles get Harry so bustled that he makes the busy bee look like a slacker! A maiden aunt gave Harry a new book on “Rose Cloture. He could have used a couple of ties, or a trouser press or any one of half-a-dozen other gifts sold by VanceVivian
