NEW TOURIST RESORT

COUNTRY CLUB AT ARAPUNI “HENLEY-ON-WAIKATO” The establishment in the near future of a country club on the shores of Lake Arapuni will give additional variety to New Zealand’s tourist attractions. The proposed residential club will be erected some miles above the dam. The club has already oeen incorporated under the name of the Henley Club, and the new resort will be known as “Henley-on-Waikato.” The proposal is the outcome of numerous suggestions made by overseas tourists, who have pointed out the widespread popularity of such institutions in Great Britain. With good trout-fishing available and a big tract of suitable game country handy to the club, the situation is ideal for the purpose. A golf course, tennis courts and bowling greens will be laid out, and aquatic pastimes will also be possible on the waters of the lake. The site is only eight miles from the railway station at Putaruru, and good road access is available. To complete the advantages of the site are beautiful scenic surroundings, high, healthy altitude and histoical Maori associations. An area of nearly 1,000 acres has been secured, with a frontage of one mile, while options have been secured for a further 1,500 acres adjoining the lake, a portion of the latter area to be used for afforestation purposes and also as a game reserve. The clearing of the property will be commenced immediately after Christmas, and it is hoped that the clubhouse will be erected before next season. In the meantime, the property i 3 open to the public for camping sites.
