Mr. P. Keller, resident engineer of the Public Works Department, who has been stationed in the King Country for a number of years, was farewelled at one of the most representative gatherings ever held in Taumarunui, practically all the local bodies being represented. The Mayor of Taumarunui was in the chair, and presented Mr. Keller with a cheque as a mark of esteem from the settlers and townspeople. Mr. Albertson suitably replied. At a meeting of the staff at the Public Works Office, Mr. H. Seddon-Hills presided, and on behalf of the subscribers asked Mr. Keller to accept a set of silver dishes, and wished Mrs. Keller and himself every future success. Mr. and Mrs. Keller and family left by motor for Stratford on Wednesday morning. Mr. G. Miller, who has been an active supporter of the Ongarue Sports Club since its inauguration, was, at the annual meeting, elected a life member. Other officers were elected as follows: —Patrons, Messrs. R. W. Smith and J. C. Rolleston; president, Mr. A. H. Delaney: vice-presi-dents, Messrs. J. Caird, C. Sneddon, E. C'oogan; committee, Messrs. D. J. Gardiner, E. Miller, INI. Meehan, D. J. McCracken, A. Kingdon, J. Dempsey, N. A. Prussing; secretary and treasurer, Mr. W. Ogier; auditor, Mr. H. Taylor. The postponed picnic-sports conducted by the Public Works employees on the Ohura railway was a very successful function, and in fine weather attracted a large attendance.
