SOCCER WAS MOST POPULAR SPORT AT OLYMPIC GAMES

ALTHOUGH track and field athletics are generally conceded to hold pride of place at the Olympic Games, it was the Soccer tournament at Amsterdam which drew the florins of the phlegmatic Dutchmen. The total receipts for the Games were £118,700, of which Soccer is credited with £45,000, and athletics approximately half that amount. English files of early November, which are just to hand, state that it is not yet known * whether the Games would result in a profit or a loss, but it is believed that a small profit will be shown.
