W.C.T.U. MEETS
The Auckland District W.C.T.U. Executive met on Monday in the Y.W.C.A. rooms, Mrs. Lee Cowie presiding over a good attendance. Great satisfaction was expressed in the victory of Prohibition in America by the election of a “Dry” President with such an overwhelming majority. The Misses McLay, Dominion organisers, reported on their work, and were congratulated on having attained such splendid results. Special mention was made of the president’s successful campaign work throughout the district. One member described from personal observation a recent sitting of the Juvenile Court, when such a large number of the youth of our city were judged for various offences, presenting a most deplorable state of affairs. Pleasing reference was made to the fact that one of the oldest members, and a Dominion officer of the W.C.T.U., Mrs. K. Evans, M.A., had been eulogised at a recent Wellington function and placed on record as a leader in education throughout the British Empire. Miss Kent Johnston was appointed “Y” superintendent.
