PERSONAL.—Mr. R. B. Steere has relieved Mr. J. Watling as third mate of the Maori. Mr. (r. A. Myers has relieved Mr. C. W. Wilde as wireless operator on the Paua. Mr. D. Menlove has relieved Mr. H. Kemp as third officer of the Tamahine. Mr. E. G. R. Meatyard is now second officer of the Kaitoke, relieving Mr. W. Kehoe. Mrs. H. Bacon has relieved Mr. A. S. Green as wireless operator on the Arahura. Captain Sellars, of the Westport Coal Company’s Canopus, is seriously indisposed at his home in Westport. Captain A. T. Totan is now in command cf the Maunganui, which has been engaged in the San Francisco mail service since June. His officers are: Chief, Mr. N. J. Siepen; second, Mr. F. W. Young; third, Mr. A. J. Herbert; fourth, Mr. T. C. Langford; chief engineer. Mr. N. MeCaig; second, Mr. N. McKinnon; third, Mr. H. Simmonds: fourth. Mr. E. Sunderland; fifth, Mr. E. Falla: sixth, Mr. W. H. Xoy: seventh, Mr. W. Webling. DANYBRYN TO SAlL.—Messrs. Henderson and Mac-far lane advise that the steamer Danybryn went into dock at Devonport this morning for cleaning. She is -expected to leave for Westport and Australian ports to-morrow morning to load wheat for Calcutta.
PORT ALMA FOR N.Z.—The C. and D. Line advises that the Port Alma is to sail from London on December 12 with general cargo to put out at Port Chalmj ers, Lyttelton and New’ Plymouth. ? TUTANEKAI IN PORT—The Governi ment steamer TuUnekai arrived back I in port yesterday afternoon from a ito Hauraki Gulf lightfe. She will leave for the South on Saturday. CALCUTTA TRADE. —The Union Company advises that the AY aiotapu is to leave Calcutta next week for tenang and Singapore, to complete loading or Lyttelton. Timaru. Dunedin, BlufL, \\ellmgton and Auckland. KUROW ARRIVED. —An arrival at Auckland this afternoon was the L moil Company’s Kurow. from Southern ports. The vessel berthed at Prince’s \vnari. and after discharge here sails for Portland, Picton, Lyttelton and YY ellingtotn. CANADIAN CRUISER ARRIVES.—A further wireless message has been leceived by the Canadian National Steamships from the Canadian Cruiser, reporting that she expected to arrive at Timaru this morning from Montreal. From iimaru the vessel will proceed to Australia. LORN ASTON B E RTH ED.—After being anchored in the stream at Auckland since Sunday last, the Lornaston berthed at King s Wharf this morning to commence the discharge of her cargo ol phosphates from Nauru Island. Henderson and Macfarlane, Ltd., are the local agents. ENTON FROM NEW YORK.—Advice has been received by the New Zealand Shipping Company that the .Avenue Shipping Company’s steamer Enton left New’ York on November 29 for Suva, Auckland, Wellington and Lyttelton. She is due at Auckland about January 7. KARAMEA LOADING. —The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s new motorship, Karamea, is expected to leave Gisborne to-day for Auckland to complete loading. She is due here to-morrow evening, or on Saturday morning, and on Tuesday next, December 11, sails finally for London, via Panama. ROTORUA SAILING —At half past four this afternoon the New Zealand Shipping Company’s liner Rotorua is to be dispatched from Auckland (Queen’s Wharf) for Wellington, to complete the discharge of her cargo from London and Southampton. The liner arrived at Auckland on Sunday morning last. MAUI POMARE COMING.—The Government steamer Maui Pomare, from Apia, left Niue on Sunday with fruit for Dunedin. The vessel is due at the Otago port on December 11, and will proceed thence to Lyttelton, Wellington and Auckland. The Maui Pomare is timed to leave Auckland on December IS for Norfolk Island. NORFOLK TO LOAD.—The New Zealand Shipping Company reports that the Norfolk will leave Lyttelton to-day to load at Gisborne, Napier, Picton and Wellington. The vessel is due at Wellington on December 17, and will sail finally from there on December 22 for London, Avonmouth, Glasgow and Liverpool, via Panama. ANTONIO SAILS TO-MORROW.-Messrs. Henderson and Macfarlane advise that the steamer Antonio is expected to sail to-morrow to complete discharge of phosphates at New Plymouth and Wanganui. She will later proceed to Westport to bunker, thence to Makatea Island to load phosphates for Australia. SYDNEY STEAMERS. —The Maunganui sails from Auckland at 3 p.m. tomorrow’ with passengers, mails and cargo for Sydney. The Marama leaves Wellington at 3 p.m. to-morrow for Sydney. The Ulimaroa sails from Sydney tomorrow’ for Wellington. All the vesesls are due at their respective destinations on Tuesday morning next. HERTFORD LOADING.—The New Zealand Shipping Company advises that the steamer Hertford is to be dispatched from Napier this evening for Tokomaru Bay, to continue loading. The vessel is due at Auckland on Monday next to complete, and oil December 13 she is scheduled to sail finally for London and West Coast ports of the United Kingdom. RUAPEHU REPORTS.—The New Zealand Shipping Company has received a wireless message from its liner Ruapehu, en route to Wellington from London and Southampton, reporting that she expects to arrive there at daylight next Wednesday, December 12. The vessel will later proceed to Dunedin, Lyttelton, Napier and New’ Plymouth to discharge her cargo.
PORT WELLINGTON TO LOAD.—The C. and D. Line advises that the Port Wellington will leave New’ Plymouth on Saturday to load at Auckland, Gisborne and Wellington. She is due at Wellington on December 20, and will sail from there on December 24 for Napier to lill up. The vessel will sail finally from Napier on December 31 for New York and London. PACIFIC COAST CARGO.—The Union Company’s Walliemo is to be dispatched from Auckland at 8 o’clock this evening for Wellington, Melbourne and Sydney, to complete the discharge of her Pacific Coast cargo. The Nordhval. at present discharging at Queen's Wharf, sails to-morrow for Melbourne and Sydney, to put out the remainder of her cargo from the Pacific Slope. MATAKANA DUE TO-MORROW.— Expected to sail from New Plymouth last evening, the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company’s Matakana is due at Auckland to-morrow to continue loading. She I leaves again about Tuesday next for i Wanganui, Wellington, Napier and Wellington again. On December 31 she is scheduled to sail finally from New Zealand (Wellington) for London, via Panama. L. D. Nathan and Company is the local agent. CANADIAN HIGHLANDER BACK.— An arrival at Auckland early this morning was the Canadian National Steamship’s steamer Canadian Highlander, from Napier. The vessel berthed at King’s Wharf to have her damaged propeller repaired, and to complete loading for America and Canada. The vessel will be tipped at the wharf to bring the propeller above the surface, so that it will not be necessary for the ship to dock at Calliope. She sails, probably toward the end of the week, for New’ York, Boston and Halifax. MAURETANIA'S NEW RECORD.— “Older but speedier’’ was the record set down by the Cunard liner Mauretania as she docked in New York Harbour September 20 on the 22nd anniversary of her launching with a new transatlantic speed record of 5 days 2 hours and 34 minutes. Her former record, made early in the summer of this year, was five days three hours and 17 minutes, the new’ record therefore beating it by 43 minutes. The run was made from Cherbourg to Am?r°4> e .. Channel Light. Captain S. G. S. McNeil was in command of the Mauretania. The average speed for the crossing was said to be 25.26 knots.
