ST. JAMES REVUE
“MIXED GRILL’" POPULAR One of the best programmes put on by Little Hermie Ward's “Whirl of Mirth” Revue Company is found in “Mixed Grills,” which has been attracting big audiences this week. Little Hermie’s drollness is one of the essentials of the show. His turns are all original and the diminutive A 1 Maurice and the casual Charles Sherman give* him ample assistance. Several bright sketches show the trio at its best. Aim© Valdor sings and dances to the delight of the crowd. Coleen Hope, Patsy Hill. Bell Barnes. Jean Keith, Peggy Sharp, Kathleen Ward, Curley Sherwood. Gus Bawson and Frank Moran all take important parts throughout the programme. The Charleston Six Jazz Band is still giving Aucklanders the latest in dance music. Syncopation in its most attractive form is a feature of the band’s performance, and there is a good number of solo items. Frank Wilson, besides showing his versatility in playing several instruments, excels himself with a cornet solo. Bede Lewis comes through a difficult saxophone solo with honours, Les Clements shows just what a really live jazz pianist should be. Bob Graham amuses the audience with his antics with the bass saxophone, and Sid Clark is a clever violinist. . The programme will be changed on Friday.
