TUDOR, REMUERA
“THE LAST COMMAND” “The East Command,”- with Emil Jannings, will be shown again this evening at the Tudor Cinema, Remuera. This is a story of Russia during the revolution, in which the great star plays the role of an Imperial Russian general. When the revolution breaks out, a beautiful young girl, a revolutionary, saves him from death at the hands of the blood-mad revolutionaries. He then comes to America in search of this fair saviour, and there the thread of the story takes a strange twist. It is a gripping story, one with poignant love and drama, mystery and thrills. Great settings mark “The Last Command,” which is an elaborate production, and the fine acting of everyone, particularly that of Jannings, marks it as one of the mightiest pictures ever made. In the beautiful stage prologue with novel lighting effects, Mr. Birrell O’Malley is the soloist. He sings most effectively two Russian love songs. Clarence Brown has been selected to direct the motion-picture adaptation of Hermann Sudermann’s novel, “The Wife of Stephen Tromholt,” which will reach the screen under the title “The Wonder of Women.” Brown recently completed “A Woman of Affairs,” the new John Gilbert-Greta Garbo co-starring vehicle, but will begin work on the Sudermann story at the Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer studios as soon as definite selections for the cast have been made.
