MAJESTIC
“TRELAWNEY OF THE WELLS” Only two more days remain for Aucklanders to see the delightful programme now being presented at the Majestic Theatre, combining pictures, music and vocal items. The pictorial side of the programme is headed by a whimsical story of the London stage and the English nobility of 1880, “Trelawney of the Wells,” starring Norma Shearer. The Miss Shearer of “Trelawney of the Wells” is an actress indeed —a finished player who uses her talents in the most effective manner. Her “Rose Trelawney” is a woman of supreme charm, at times a gay hoydenisli wrecker of human hearts, and again a poignant little figure who stirs the emotions deeply, but at all times is Miss Shearer delightful. Never lias this artiste played in a picture of so much interest and beauty as the-* pictorial England of 1880, and never has she looked more lovely than in the alluring garments of the quaint Victorian era. O. P. Heggie, famous stage actor, was specially engaged by Metro-Gold-wyn-Mayer to play the great character role of Sir William Gower, and his performance will be appreciated as much as that of Ralph Forbes, \yho rises to new heights of achievement as the romantic lead opposite Miss Shearer. Forbes plays the part of an impetuous scion of an aristocratic family. Falling in lo.ve with an actress, an unpardonable socia-l trespass in his circle, the young man braves the displeasure of his family and friends to make her his wife. Miss Christina Ormiston sings most charmingly . ‘ One Fine Day,” from “Madame Butterfly,” and “You’ll be Asking,” from “The Masked Ball.” Bright supporting pictures, including a comedy, “Came the Dawn,” and the latest world news in the Majestic News, complete the programme, the whole of which is accompanied effectively by the Majestic Orchestra. The new picture to be presented at the Majestic Theatre on Friday next is “The Adorable Outcast,” a story of life on the coral islands of the South Pacific.
