LAND AGENT DEFAULTS
HELPED HIMSELF TO TRUST MONEY HOPED FOR BETTER TIMES Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. Nine charges of having fraudulently converted to his own use money received as deposits on a house property were preferred to-day against J. D. M. Mclntyre, land agent, aged 46. The amount involved was £364. Mr. A. J. Petherick, public accountant, said in evidence that the usual books of account had not been kept, and accused admitted he had not kept a cash book. His trust account in the bank had practically ceased, the credit balance being 9s 3d. So far as witness could tell, the total shortage was £364. Police evidence showed that accused had made a statement saying that business in the land agency line was not bright, and, to keep afloat, he was compelled to use the deposits to pay expenses. He had no intention *o defraud anyone, but kept hoping for better times. Accused pleaded guilty and was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence.
