PRODUCING PARASITES
ENTOMOLOGIST BUSY COMBATING BLOW-FLIES Press Association NELSON, To-day. The control of the maggots of blowflies in sheep by means of a natural enemy was undertaken in 1926 by Dr. Miller, chief of the Entomological Department, Cawthron Institute, when holding the position of New Zealand Government Entomologist. On arrangement with the department, the work has been continued at the Cawthron Institute, and Dr. Miller has been successful in his experiments. Part of the Cawthron Insectarie has been set apart for the mass production of parasites, and the second brook since winter is now being distributed. Thees distributions will be made throughout the coming summer and autumn, when the expected parasite will be sufficiently established for all practical purposes. The live stock division is assisting in the distribution, and supplies have been sent to the stock inspectors in different districts. A large consignment of parasites sent to Australia has proved a great success.
