AFTER 28 YEARS
CLERK YIELDS TO TEMPTATION Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. The theft of sums to a total of £127 6s 2d between April and October this year while in the employ of the Wellington Harbour Board was admitted to-day by a clerk, Ashton George Edwards, aged 41, before Mr. E. Page, S.M. The chief ledger-keeper said accused had had 2S years service with the board, and. for two years to October last was assistant ledger-keeper. In October there was a cash shortage, and witness was unable to obtain a balance. When taxed, Edwards admitted without hesitation having used the board’s money, and later supplied a statement. Accused had since resigned and had restored the money. To counsel, witness said accused had made no attempt to falsify the books.
He was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence. .
