ROBBED EMPLOYER
YOUTH GIVEN CHANCE TOOK MONEY AND CAR FOR JOY-RIDE A youth who robbed his employer of £lO and took his motorcar to have a joy-ride round the town was given a chance at the Police Court this morning. The boy, whose age was given as 17, pleaded guilty to stealing £lO between June and August of this year. He also admitted converting to his own us© a car valued at £225. According to Chief-Detective Hammond, the youth was employed in a garage and had turned to his own account money that should have been handed to his employer for the sale of grease and oil. The car, which also belonged to his employer, he had taken for a joy-ride. The boy was quite alone and wanted someone to look after him. On the recommendation of the probation officer, Mr. W. J. Campbell, the boy was admitted to probation for two years, being ordered to pay back the £lO. Mr. Hammond: What about his name ? Mr. F. K. Hunt, S.M.: He is only 17. We had better give him a chance. The name was suppressed.
