GRUELLING TEST
FOUR NEW MOTOR-CYCLE RECORDS An amazing performance was accomplished at Brooklands track on September 5, when a Standard B.S.A. 1.74 h.p. motor-cycle established four long distance world’s records in class 6 for 9, 10, 11 and 12 hours. The little machine ran true to the B.S.A. reputation for reliability. Starting at 8 a.m. it lapped steadily at 39 to 40 m.p.h., carrying at every alternate two hours a 12st 21b rider. For 11 hours on end it continued unfalteringly at this speed, without it being necessary to use a single tool. During the twelfth hour the rider opened out and the machine responded, after 11 hours continuous running, in amazing fashion, averaging 47.1 m.p.h. for the last 10 laps. The final lap was accomplished at 50.06 m.p.h., the fastest lap during the entire record. A stop was made every two hours for filling up with petrol, and a change of rider.
