RIALTO, AND REGENT, EPSOM
“STOP THAT MAN” A happy story of youthful overenthusiasm is “Stop that Man!" now’ at the Rialto and Regent, Epsom. Theatres. Tommy O'Brien's dream of becoming a policeman like his two elder brothers comes true when he secretly dons one of their uniforms, which lie was supposed to take to the tailor’s. While in the uniform he is called to the rescue of a girl. ’l’hen he aids a man, whom he sees trying to unlock a door, by climbing in the window for him. The man is “Slippery Dick” Sylvaine, a crook. Arthur Lake has the leading role and Barbara Kent appears as the leading lady. “Good Morning, Judge.” a most amusing comedy starring Reginald Denny, is the second attraction.
“HALF A BRIDE” AT EDENDALE
“Half a Bride,” a comedy-drama starring the beautiful actress, Esther Ralston, is the picture at the Edendale Theatre this evening. The picture contains a very intriguing plot, and is based on the experiences of a pleasure-mad girl, who finds true happiness in a trip back to Nature. Gary Cooper, the versatile star whose recent BBCCC—I 3 "Doomsday” and “Beau Sabreur.” which have made him a popular screen favourite, has the leading male role, and carries it off excellently. “Telling the World.” an exciting story of the work of the Press Association in America and China, will also be shown. William Haines is the star.
“HANGMAN’S HOUSE” AT GRAND
“Hangman’s House,” based on the Donn Byrne novel of the same name, will be shown at the Grand Theatre again this evening. Victor McLaglen plays the part of Citizen Hogan in this dramatic story, and is ideal for the part. lie starts as a member of the Foreign Legion and ends as an avenger in Ireland. Mystery surrounds bis mission, and tragedy hovers over him as lie follows his foe through the bogs and peatlands of Erin. Miss Collyer is seen as Connaught O’Brien. Larry Kent, one of the most successful among the younger screen players, gives a splendid account of himself as Dermott McDermott. He is the romantic lead and appears with Earle Foxe, the menace, and with Hobart Bosworth, cast as “Jimmy the Hangman.” The last scenes of “Sins of the Fathers,” the latest Jannings production for Paramount, are now being filmed. The star appears as a convict in tlie final sequences and spent several days visiting the neighbouring prisons to gain “atmosphere.” Others in the cast are Barry Norton, Jean Arthur and Zasu Pitts. Ludwig Berger is directing.
