AMATEURS’ ADJUSTMENTS THE FINAL BATCH '‘Theory,” in arriving at a decision on the Auckland Cup handicap, says: “Taking a line through the New Zealand Cup handicap, it should not be difficult to place the candidates which took part in the Addington contest. Peter Bingen won off 4.25, so should come back to 4.23, while Great Bingen, who finished a close second off 4.22 could be brought to 4.21. Ahuriri was such a close third that to give the others a chance he would be tightened half a second, putting him on 4.22£. Talaro missed of 4.25, but won the big race on the concluding day, so deserves to come back to 4.24. The rest would be ‘as you were’ with the exception of Machine Gun, who has since failed from a 4.27 mark, and Padlock, who was never entitled to a 4.25 mark in the first instance. After making these deductions, the adjustment should
