PLANES MUST HAVE SKIS

WILKINS IN ANTARCTIC EIELSON’S ICY DUCKING (Australian and N.Z. Pres* Association) (United Service) Reed. 10.20 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. Sir Hubert Wilkins, in a wireless message from Deception Island, dated November 30, says that there has been another postponement of his efforts to take off in the air on his Antarctic flight. The planes must now be fitted with skis. An accident occurred during the transferring of the two planes from the ship. The plane Los Angeles had its propeller and wings damaged. The machine came down beautifully, but the wheels struck a hole In the ice, through which they sank until the wings and fuselage held it up. Lieutenant Eielson fell through the ice, but clambered out none the worse for his ducking.
