NORTH SHORE FOURS
EA.SY WIN FOR JACKSON The fate of the North Shore Challenge Cup was decided for the 'season when the club held a set of trial fours on Saturday. Four crews competed. The course was from Cheltenham Beacli to the boathouse, a distance of about one mile. Smooth water was experienced to the North Head, but the south-west wind raised a rough sea on the run up the harbour. The crews were:—F. Norris (str), D. Townsend, Christie, L. Stokes (bow); D. Davies (str), F. Eaton, Walsh, W. Seagar (bow); W. Dean (str), B. McCallum, G. Challinor, Jenks (bow); H. Jackson (str), B. Rutledge, E. Oliver, R. Eagles (bow). First heat: Smooth water suited Norris, who had a fair lead until entering heavy conditions off North Plead, when Davies’s crew drew level. For the remainder of the journey the race was an excellent cohtest, Davies gaining the verdict by a canvas only. Second heat: Jackson had no difficulty in keeping at the head of a procession and winning by two lengths from Dean. Final: As in the second heat, Jackson jumped away to a good start and led Davies all the distance, winning comfortably by several lengths.
