POLICE RAID HOTEL

EXCURSIONISTS DRINK ON SUNDAY BARMAN AND VISITORS FINED (From Our Own Com'espondent) WHANGAREI, To-day. As a result of a police raid on Towai Hotel on Sunday, November 25, E. V. Ralls, the licensee, was charged before Mr. -L H. Luxford, S.M., at Whangarei this morning with supplying liquor at a prohibited time. He pleaded guilty. The evidence showed that four men had entered the hotel from an excursion train and were there when the police visit was made. The magistrate adjourned the case to allow of the production of the licence. Arising out of the same case E. S. Ralls, a son of the licensee, pleaded guilty to selling liquor at a prohibited time and was fined £2 and costs 10s. The four excursionists, Charles Brown, Frank King, Tairi Shepherd and Bert McMaster, charged with being unlawfully on licensed premises, were each fined 10s and costs.
