NEW REGENT
“JUST MARRIED” In furtherance of their policy that variety is the spice of entertainment, the Regent Theatre management has arranged one of the brightest and breeziest shows that patrons have seen. The excellent stage band presentation is of the usual high standard, with a distinctly nautical motif. The Sydney ballet has more delightful new turns to offer, and its dancing of the hornpipe and sailor reel dances wins applause, and more commendation for the ballet master, Mr. Maurice Diamond. Miss Stella Lamond again wins her way into the hearts of the audience by her dancing and singing. Other popular artists who reappear are Ivy To we and Freddie Hodges. The performance ends with the dramatic entry of the ballet in a stirring patriotic flag dance. The main pictorial attraction, entitled “Just Married,” is also of a very high standard. It is undiluted farcecomedy, with a more than generous leavening of romance. The story revolves around the unexpected arrival on a passenger steamer of a little French cafe dancer. On the same passenger list was her late admirer, now happily engaged to an American girl of his own social status. His efforts to keep the two girls from knowing one another is the basis of most of the comedy. Ruth Taylor and James Hall are the two Americans, and Lila Lee appears as the hot-tempered French girl. Excellent supporting items round out the programme.
