THIEVES IN THE SUBURBS
CHEQUES AND NOTES STOLEN HOMES AND A GARAGE ENTERED Three cases of breaking and entering were reported to the police over the week-end. In each instance sums of money were stolen. A cashbox which was stolen from a garage in Devonport was found on the beach this morning. Some time on Saturday thieves entered the home of Mr. Ritchie, of Gladstone Road, Parnell, and decamped with £ls in notes and silver. On Saturday afternoon the residence of Mr. E. J. Kennedy, of Shipherd’s Avenue, Epsom, was ransacked and property valued at about £ls was stolen. The intruders had overturned furniture and damaged the house. A motor garage in Clarence Road, Devonport, is also reported to have been broken into. The cashbox. containing about £2O in cheques and notes, was stolen from the office. This morning it was found lying on the beach at the foot of Garden Terrace. The cheques which were in the cashbox were missing, but the owner of the garage has notified the bank and the cheques have been stopped.
