WOMAN FOR SENTENCE STOLE TOILET GOODS Annie Marshall’s gratitude toward Benjamin Henry Duke, who gave her a brandy and port be* cause she was feeling ill, did not prevent her from stealing toilet goods from his shop. Marshall, alias Henderson, a domestic, aged 50, was charged at tlie Police Court this morning vith stealing soaps and toilet accessories valued at £2 13s 6d from Mr. Duke. She admitted that she had taken the goods, but was not prepared to plead guilty of theft. According to Chief-Detecti. c Hammond, Mr. Duke had a small fancy goods shop which Marshall had frequented for some Lime. While under the influence of liquor she had parcelled up the goods aud left the shop with them. It was probably her intention to pawn them so that she could buy more drink. Marshall: Mr. Duke gave me the drink himself. 1 complained of not feeling well, and he gave me some brandy and port wine. Marshall was remanded until Wed nesday for sentence.
