First Talkie Film Produced in Europe

CAMERAS AT WEMBLEY The first fully equipped talking film studio in Europe has been built on the site of the old Lucullus restaurant at the Wembley Exhibition. It belongs to British Talking Pictures, Ltd., which owns and controls the de Forest talking film devices, and a new associated company, British Sound Film Productions, Ltd., which will produce phono-films. A cabaret scene with a syncopated orchestra playing dance tunes' and a row of chorus girls singing and pirouetting across the dance floor was being “shot” when a reporter was shown over the studio recently, says the “Daily Mail.” The production, apart from the noises recorded, proceeded in silence. The producer, instead of shouting through a megaphone, merely wagged a forefinger at the girls. And they and the orchestra understood his dumb show. Talking films for election purposes are already being made. There is a good talking film of Mr. George Robey. Feeding time at the zoo, reproducing the roars of lions and the chatter of monkeys, as well as the amusing comments of keepers, is also a verv realistic production.
