HAMILTON NOTES
Mrs. Kenshaw, Mrs. U. Fell and Mrs. Pillans were visitors from Tauranga to Hamilton this week - Miss Phyllis Reeves has returned from Dunedin for the university vacation. Mrs. A*. M. Ferguson, of Auckland, was in Hamilton for a few days during the week. Mrs. S. A. Bell, who has bee# visiting her daughter, Mrs. Wynne Gray, in Hamilton, has returned to Auckland. Miss Isabelle Brook, of Auckland, was in Hamilton to be present on Wednesday night at Miss Gladys Denz’s dunce recital to raise funds for Camp P’ergusson. Miss Iris Fausett, who is shortly leaving Walton, was the guest of honour at a very jolly tennis party at the home of Mrs. L. Mabb in Walton recently. About twenty young people were present and during the afternoon they presented Miss Fausett with a gold wristlet watch as a parting gift. FAREWELL PARTIES On Wednesday evening Mrs. T. C. Fraser, in her home on Von Tempsky Street, gave a particularly gay party for Mrs. T. Y. Lusk, who leaves on Monday for Dunedin. Mrs. Fraser was wearing a becoming frock of delphinium blue georgette, with silver lace. Mrs. Lusk was in black sequined georgette. Bridge was played and prizes were won by Mrs. Sutcliffe and Mrs. Monckton, who gave their gifts to the guest of honour. Mrs. Lusk was also the recipient of a small French clock* Tho§e present were: Mrs. T. A. Milroy, Mrs. P. R. Stewart, Mrs. C. B. Wake, Mrs. A. English, Mrs. E. R. Mears, Mrs. N. Ratcliffe, Mrs. W. O’Meara gave a very jolly tea party for Mrs. T. Y. Lusk at the Lyceum Club. Beautiful sweet peas blended with the table requisites. All present had a very bright time. Mrs. O’Meara was wearing a navy jumper skirt and navy and red hat. Mrs. Lusk was in a beige .sports ensemble. The others present were: Mrs. P. G. Stewart, Mrs. T. C. Fraser, Mrs. T. A. Heywood and Miss E. Eggleston. I * * On Saturday a very pleasant social l evening was held in the Parish Hall at t Claudelands, Avhen many parishioners met to say farewell to Mr. and Mrs. G. I , W. Matthews, who are leaving to make ' their home in Auckland, and the Rev. J. Rich, who lias accepted a position : in the Christchurch diocese. ‘ Songs and dances were given by Miss Dana P. Clapham, Miss Tracy ' Gould and Mr. F. H. Clapham, the accompanists being Mrs. H. C. Ross and Miss N. Valder. Mr. F. B. Hall, on behalf of the parishioners, asked Mrs. Matthews to accept a silver teapot and hot water jug, Mr. Matthews a gold Eversharp and Mr. Rich a cheque. He wished them all great happiness in their new homes, but expressed great regret in losing them from Claudelands. Mrs. H. Valder also spoke of the enthusiasm shown by Mrs. Matthews on the Ladies’ Guild. The evening concluded with dancing, the music being supplied by Mrs. G. R. Barnett, Miss N. Valder, Miss I. BRIDGE AT CLUB On Wednesday evening a very successful “visiting” bridge party was arranged by the Bridge Committee at the Lyceum Club. The lounge was looking very attractive with shaded sweet peas and antirrhinums. The winning table proved to be Mrs. Prenton, Miss G. Eggleston, Miss M. Stevens and Miss C. Wallnutt. Consolation prizes went to Mrs. Oswald Smith, I Mrs. Brewer, Miss Brewer and Miss M. Rimmer. Ttie players present were: i Mesdames H. Douglas, Valder, senr., L. Sheppard, F. Jolly, E. P. Cowles, W. WELCOME TO OVERSEAS VISITOR A gay evening was spent at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Hayes on Monday to welcome Miss Elsie Hayes, who has recently come to Hamilton from Mountain Ash, South Wales. Mrs. Hayes received her guests in a frock of mignonette green crepe de chine. Miss Hayes was in a frock of beige lace. Mr. Burley welcomed the guest and songs and recitations were given, the performers being Mesdames Lake, Green, Messrs. W. Ruck, H. Webster, R. Blackie, W. Fenton, F. W. Burley and Osborne. The Welsh National Anthem in Welsh and English was sung. Those present were: Mesdames V. Fenton, W. A. Green, W. Ruck, H. Webster, F. Boardman. H. Davies, L. Lake, J. Morley, M. Freni in and R. Boswell, Misses L. Webster, V. Harper, S. Maher (Auckland), E. Prentice, M. Lewis.
