LEAGUE MAY DESERT GENEVA THIS SESSION
LUGANA BETTER FOR HEALTH OF DR. STRESEMANN British Official Wireless Reed. 10.40 a.m. RUGBY, Friday. There seems every likelihood that the next meeting of the League of Nations Council (due to begin on December 10) will be held at Lugano, Switzerland. This will be the first time the Council will have met in Switzerland in a town other than Geneva. The reason is that Dr. Stresemann’s doctors consider that the climate of Geneva at this time of the year would be prejudicial to the German Foreign Minister’s health, which has not yet completely recovered from the effects of his recent long illness. Dr. Stresemann was too ill to attend the last two meetings of the Council, and his desire again to meet Sir Austen Chamberlain and MBriand (France) in particular is reciprocated by those statesmen. It has been necessary to obtain the acquiescence of all the members of the Council before changing the meeting place from Geneva to Lugano, and although all the replies i s /e not yet been received, no objection to the proposal has so far been made. The only political question in the Council agenda relates to the PolishLithuanian problem, but it is generally considered probable that the meeting of Foreign Ministers will enable important, if informal, discussions on current problems to take place.
