YOUR GUESTS
A COMFORTABLE ROOM WRITING REQUISITES .Nine times out of ten the most uncomfortable bed, for some occult reason, is placed in the spare room, so see that you have the best mattresses and large, soft pillows. Remember that in a woman’s room there must be a big sofa with two great, cushions on it, and a table by the side of it, with at least five or six novels,. liow often, one hears the despairing cry, “Can you lend me a book to read?” The very question in itself argues a neglect on the part of the hostess. These books of fiction should be fresh and be most carefully selected, instead of being the kind of ancient rubbish which one usually finds to read. All this involves a good deal of trouble, but it is well worth it.’ Now for the writing-table, anji this is an item of comfort which the men will appreciate equally with the women. You should have a broad, low table, at which one can sit in comfort, instead of a tiny, rickety little writingtable, with one unsharpened pencil and a bad pen, no telegraph forms, and probably no envelopes, which is all that is usually found, except in those houses where the hostess or host look into the matter. On the right you should have a big pair of scissors, two sharpened pencils, and two steel pens. Have also a large, sensible inkstand, for everybody does not use a fountain pen, and on the left have every requisite for writing letters, including some large envelopes, telegraph forms, and labels with half a dozen postage stamps. ‘
