When the tapes were released Prince Val and Taneriri moved backwards, losing ground, while Armenia set a merry pace from Jolly Money. Red Lion, Footpad, Miss Myrtles Just Nell and Becalmed. Footpad went to the front along the back and showed the way to Red Lion, Jolly Money, Just Nell, Justify, Black Maire, Princess Rain, with Taneriri making up ground fast. Justify was the first to turn for home, with Jolly Money, Taneriri and Black Marie in hot pursuit, followed closely by Princess Rain, Just Nell. Red Lion, Sir Mond and Bannock. In a hard tussle to the judge Jolly Money did best to win by a length from Taneriri, who put up a fine performance, with Black Maire close up, third, followed by Good Boy. Justify. Wenday Beats the Favourite Roman Abbey arid Potoanui were left at the start of the Tiri I-ligh-Weight Handicap, Master Clements beginning fast to lead past the stands from Master Lu, Abbot’s Delight, Lord Abbey, Wenday, Mangaiti and Glena Bay. Along the back Master Clements was still bowling along in the van, his closest attendants being Abbot’s Delight, Master Lu, Lord Abbey, Glena Bay, Royal Form and Chari taine. When the home turn was reached Lors Abbey had taken command from Moy Hall, Abbot’s Delight. Royal Form, Master Clements, Wenday, Potoanui, Glena Bay and Bizarro. Once down to real business Wenday put in a great dash to get up and win by a length from the favourite, who was half a length in advance of Bizarro, with Glena Bay, Royal Form, Chari taine, Lord Abbey and Rahepoto next to cross the line. The favourite, Moy Hall, carried £426, Chari taine £405 and Wenday £ 366 being the best supported of the remainder. Rider Suspended L. Coleman, rider of Master Clements in the Tiri High-weight, was brought before the judicial committee and suspended for the remainder of the meeting for crossing over too quickly in the straight. Awarere, carrying £ 606, was elected as first choice for the Borough Handicap, and the Te Awamutu gelding justified the public confidence by winning nicely from Flying Juliet, who was next in demand with £ 509. Mithra £ 475 and Mac room £406 were the best supported of the remainder. Macroom went out quickly and led early from The Lamb, Flying Juliet, Awarere, The Thorn. Cynthia N., and Eh Timi. Transformer’s Good Victory Corinax £874 was first fancy, with speculators for the Alison Cup, but Tloyal Doulton £763 had a good call in the market, while there were friends for Desert Glow £567, and the eventual winner, Transformer, £474. Golden 'Wedding was the first to show out, and led past the stands from Seafown, Desert Glow, LeChoucas. Mint Leaf, Papatu, Tinokoa, Transformer, Royal Doulton and Corinax. Along the back Desert Glow assumed command, and his nearest attendants were Seatuwn, Golden Wedding, Mint Leaf, Tinokoa and Royal Doulton. Crossing the top, Transformer, who had put in a good run, took up the position of pilot and showed the way to the turn, where lie Choucas fell. Transformer turned into the straight ahead of Thursby, Mint Leaf, Seatown, Tinokoa, Desert Glow, Royal Doulton and Papatu. The leader could not be supplanted in the run to the box, Thursby, who threw out a strong challenge, getting within a length and a-half at the wire, with Tinokoa two lengths away third.
