STRAWBERRIES EASIER Local apples were in poor demand at the City Markets to-day. Pears are still difficult to clear and low rates are ruling. Strawberries are selling a little easier. Large stocks are coming forward and the inquiry is good. Gooseberries are selling well at prices similar to those last week. Larger supplies of hothouse tomatoes are coming on to the benches. They are meeting with a fair demand. This week’s shipment of Australian citrus fruit was fairly large. The oranges brought are selling well. Australian cherries, too, are realising good prices. No Sydney pines or loquats were brought. There are better supplies of new potatoes on the market benches. Cabbages, cauliflowers and green peas are in ample stock. There is a steady inquiry for all vegetables. French beans and outdoor cucumbers are now more plentiful. To-day's poultry auction saw heavy supplies. Cockerels are still causing brisk competition. Ducks and hens are selling at low rates. Turkeys are now being consigned more freely and are meeting with a good demand. Pigs sold at late rates to-day. Baconers brought £3 6s to £3 ISs; porkers, £2 to £2 10s: slips, to £1 6s; and weaners, to 12s. LONDON WOOL SALES
STRONG COMPETITION (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 9.16 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. At the wool sales 8,766 bales were offered, of which 4,459 were Australian and 4,236 New Zealand. There was a fine selection of Continental style Merinos, and a good offering of all descriptions of crossbreds. There was strong general competition, and late rates were fully maintained. New Zealand, greasy, Waipaoa, 21 £d top, average 20d.

Treasury bonds, due on February 1, 1929, which are estimated to aggregate about £173,000,000, are invited to convert them into the new issue, which carries a right, of conversion into 4 per cent. MINING NEWS
WAIHI.—The following informtaion has been cabled to the London office of the Waihi Gold Mining Company:—For the period ended November 17, 18,249 tons of ore were crushed, for a result of 5.753 fine ounces of gold, and 37,214 fine ounces of silver. This includes 974 tons mined from the Grand Junction area, which yielded 247 ounces of gold, and 1,047 ounces of silver. No. 9 level: Regina lode—Driving west, the next 37ft is a mixture of quartz and country, assaying 16s a ton. Driving east, the next 30ft assays 39s a ton. At 55ft east the full width of quartz is 10ft, and assay value 60s a ton. No. 4 diamond drill: The hole is down 352 ft, and is in quartz of very low value.
