Paganelli and the Feilding Stakes
PROSPECTS FOR TO-MORROW A FINE PROGRAMME Clashing with the Takapuna fixture is the spring.gathering of the Feilding Jockey Club. One Aucklander will be engaged, and he is a strong fancy for his race, the classic on the opening jay to-morrow. Since the last meeting at Feildin'the course and appointments have undergone many alterations, and now the straight is reported as being a bit lunger than be tore, when it was barely u iurlong. fcstill. barrier positions will play * n important part in future racing at the Southern centre, particularly in the sprints and middle distance events, the round course making a <inall marble one of the essentials to success. To-morrow the principal events are the Feilding Cup and Feilding Stakes. In the latter, a classic race over live furlongs, only eight remain in, including speedy ones such as Paganelli, Cimabue, Lysunder and The Hawk. Paganelli was in excellent order when he left Te Rapa, and it really looks as if he will go a slick five furlongs round the Feilding turns. He and Cimabue may be the best backed, with supporters of the Northerner in all probability being asked to lay odds. In the Cup there are eleven acceptors, with nothing outstanding, unless it be the top weights. The sprint has attracted a small field, and no, too. has the hurdles, but otherwise the acceptances are excellent. It is vr»ry probable that the Aorangi Trial plate, a race often productive of a surprise, will have to be run in divisions. Altogether it is a promising card. The following should como in for solid support in their engagements: W&ituna Hurdles— Sunart and Elysianor. Aorangi Trial —First division: Llanore and Star Girl. Aorangi Trial—Second division: The Warden and War Zone. Feilding Cup Handicap— Catkin and Vertigern. Feilding Stakes — Paganelli and Cimabue. Kovvhai Hack — Tanagra and Royal Acre. Fli’ing Handicap (open)— Chelone tind Callanmore. Fitzroy Hack Handicap—Lady Quex and Argue. Kiwitea Handicap — King Midas and Vigilance. Riding Engagements The following riding engagements have been announced:—■ T. Green —Catkin, Chelone, War Zone, Orazone, Callaput and Home Made. T. Metcalf,—Vivo, Xilorell and Lin Arlington (second day). A. G. Murray —Cold Air, Blimp, Sovena, Bobbin, Xilmiss and .Tiu Jazz.
C. Broughton—Miss Field, Bry Area an sj. Hing Hal (second day). K. Voitre—Courtlike, Novar, Ilymestruson and Callanmore. L. G. Morris —Paganelli and Vast Acre. B. H. Morris —The Warden. Lysander, Vertigern and Xing Midas. R. Reed —Cimabue, Gold Bag. The Swell a.nd Keddar. R. J. Mackie —Stanchion, Kawhakina a nd Helotis. J. Blanche —American Pillar (second day). C- Robinson—Hymestrason (second nay). A. E. Stratton —Sunart. T. Webster.—lnflame and Imperial Spark. Owing to there being more horses engaged in the Aorangi Trial than numbers on the totalisatov, horses will bo. bracketed as follows: Ali Baba and Level, Grattan and Irish Moss, Snowshoe ;md The Warden, Elicit and Miss Atlanta., Mademoiselle and Broxt, Vexillum and Jiu Jazz. Irish Court and War Zone. The acceptances for to-morrow are
Abou; Sea town There is little doubt that the 1925192 P season was a vintage year for two-year-olds, for did we not have Limerick, Commendation and Lysander in the first flight, while not far behind them were Seatown and Hynanna? The former was not raced very much following his first season on the turf, although a couple of years ago he won the Grandstand Handicap at Xilerslie on the final day of the summer meeting. On Labour Bay, not five weeks ago, Seatown made a reappearance after a lengthy spell, finishing in third place with 9.0. That was rather an impressive effort after such a long absence, and it will draw pointed attention to the chestnut’s form in the Alisor Cup to-morrow, particularly in view of his engagement in next month’s Auckland Cup. Corinax and the Cup A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush, and the first prize in the Alison Cup to-morrow is worth £550, quite worth winning. Nevertheless the winner, if engaged in the Auckland Cup, with £2,200 for the victor, will have to carry a few pounds extra, and several Candida res for the big Ellerslie handicap are among those listed for to-morrow'h principal contest. One of the most conspicuous of these is the Magpie gelding Corinax, a horse that has already displayed a distinct preference for the left-handed course—which is the way they go round at Takapuna. Corinax is probably the principal fancy for the Auckland Cup in this city at least, and there appears to be sound reason for expecting him to run the race of his life at Ellerslie. Apparently Corinax is to be allowed to tnkt» hi fiance at Takapuna to-mor-row, and there will be a lot of disappointed backers if he fails to lead the field home in the Alison Cup.
