Robbed by Riffs
Malcolm Campbell has Adventurous Trip SAHARA SPEED TRACK Reed. 9.5 a.in. LONDON, Wednesday. (United. Service) Captain Malcolm Campbell, the English racing motorist, has returned from the Sahara Desert, after an adventurous flight. He was forced down on the African coast, robbed by the Riffs and rescued by Spanish soldiers. He came home in a Spanish steamer. He found an ideal speed track for i«rt> toring; but he decided not to utilise it owing to its remoteness and the expense of maintaining headquarters. captain Campbell said he was returning with shattered illusions as to making a motoring record in the Sahara. He found an area all right about. 800 miles north of Timbucloo; but it was 150 miles to the nearest outpost, and the only access is across an arid uneven desert, over which all supplies, including water, must be carried. Captain Malcolm was accompanied by Lieutenant D. Don.
