ALL N.Z. TIMBER

TONGARIRO HOSTEL ARCHITECT’S ASSURANCE Press Association TIMARU, Wednesday. The architect for the hostel at Tongariro .National Park, Mr. Herbert Hall, replied to-day to a telegraphed statement that considerable quantities of American timber are to be used in the hostel. Mr. Hall said the statement was wholly inaccurate. At present only the workmen’s huts were being hurriedly erected, in time for use by Christmas picnickers. A small quantity of Oregon was on the site, because local material was not available in time. No material had yet been ordered for the main building. A special clause was inserted in the specifications, at the instance of the Prime Minister, stipulating that a feature must be made of New Zealand timber in the hostel.
